Not too long ago, the solar energy division of a retail energy client began looking for new opportunities to both reduce installation and general setup time for their own customers. After a large amount of research, they realized they needed to replace their legacy Field Service application with a much more modern solution. Doing so would allow them to not only decrease solar panel installation time but also improve efficiency and avoid data loss—but, unfortunately, they didn't have the capability to embark on such a project on their own.

The team at Pariveda got to work on a robust solution that would address all the client's needs and requirements. SalesForce's native functionality was extended by way of a dedicated Android mobile application—something that would allow field technicians to perform all activities associated with the installation process with full offline support.
Barcode scanning technology was also leveraged in a number of interesting ways, including the ability for real-time commenting for back-end support. A shared code base was also created that would assist with future iOS development for iPhone, iPad, and similar devices down the road.
The move to solar saves customers $10,000 each
At the end of the project, Pariveda's solution was able to almost instantly increase the efficiency of field technician functions during the assessment, design, and installation phases of the solar panel installation process. Field technicians now have the opportunity to work "smarter, not harder" for the first time, making it easier for them to do their jobs on a daily basis.
Solving the client's data loss-related challenges has also helped generate an estimated $10,000 savings per customer follow-up as well. These savings can then easily be passed onto the customers themselves, something everyone involved can benefit from.
