Why are systems so hard to maintain? 

Recently, a client came to the team at Pariveda in search of assistance. An existing e-commerce platform that offered data research products for download in the Microsoft Excel format was starting to make the client realize that these Excel products were difficult to maintain and update, which only made delivering them to customers (not to mention preventing piracy) an uphill battle on the best of days.

Additionally, the client needed to publish the data products to a web-based platform that would not only make it easier to up and cross-sell to subscribers, but they also had to take steps to improve usability, maintainability and flexibility at the same time.

Create a customer friendly platform 

Pariveda made heavy use of Sitefinity's CMS platform, along with its templating framework, to develop custom MVC widgets that would deliver various data product tools in a totally web-based environment. The team at Pariveda was also able to leverage the Sitefinity e-commerce platform to help customize the appearance of all product pages, as well as the information captured when products were purchased.

Pariveda also integrated the client's standard UI frameworks (think Kendo and Bootstrap) to help provide a better, more responsive and more interactive user experience on tablets and smartphones in particular.

Along the same lines, they achieved SSO on Sitefinity's platform by using the client's existing authentication ADFS service provider to its advantage. To top it all off, the team also maintained the ability to leverage highly valuable legacy systems by exposing the API for consumption of user registrations and order histories.

Systems provide insights

At the end of the day, the team at Pariveda was able to enable the client's data analysts to easily update data products to provide customers with new insights by uploading data through custom Sitefinity widget interfaces. These changes were also able to empower content administrators to quickly create new products or content to entice their users to purchase data that will provide insight into their market or to their specific real-estate properties.
