Out of the Office
Mike is probably best known for the passion he exudes when discussing all things related to the University of Tennessee – the “clean orange” as he often refers to it. He is a football season ticket holder and loves hosting friends to a game, showing them the haunts from his college years and exposing them to the full Big Orange experience.
While more private, he spends most of his time with his family and friends. He enjoys coaching his son’s youth basketball team and joining his son on the golf course, dreading the day when his son consistently beats him. His daughter is also active in sports which Mike enjoys as a spectator. Along with his wife, Mike enjoys hosting people in his home which includes neighbors as well as people from work. During the summer, Mike and his family spend weekend time on the lake getting away from the electronic world and big city rat race which consumes us.
Education and Service
In addition to coaching youth sports, Mike serves in his church, and is a past President of his neighborhood homeowner’s association. He graduated from the University of Tennessee-Knoxville with a B.S. in Industrial Engineering in 1985. During his senior year, Mike was one of five recipients of the Torchbearer Award, the highest award given to undergraduates, in honor of his academic and service contributions to the university during his four years.
