On December 10, 2009, a sea change began in the Texas electric market. Little noted by many, the Electric Reliability Council of Texas (ERCOT) announced that it had “performed the first wholesale settlements using actual advanced metering data" on Monday, Dec. 7. As of December 9, 2009, more than 26,000 accounts had been successfully settled using advanced meter data. By 2014, nearly 7 million retail customers in Texas will have advanced meters installed. Texas utilities are spending over $2.0 billion to deploy smart meters over the next 4 years. Since January 29, 2010, over 710,000 smart meters are currently stored in the Smart Meter Texas data repository and are actively loading LSE data from the TDSPs. Over 30 REPS have requested the FTPS and API specification documents and are investigating integration with Smart Meter Texas.
Mr. Hilliard is a Principal at Pariveda Solutions with over 13 years of diverse management and technology consulting experience spanning the financial services, construction, media, consumer product and energy industries. For the past seven years, he has worked extensively with energy clients focusing on information technology strategy and delivery in deregulated retail markets. He has recently led systems planning projects for several leading advanced metering and Smart Grid infrastructure vendors. Prior to joining Pariveda Solutions, Mr. Hilliard was in a management position in the Energy practice at Capgemini.
