Pariveda had four fins volunteer to help The Education Rainbow Challenge, Inc. (ERC) in hosting their Semi-Annual Math Contest. The ERC is a non-profit organization initiated by the Lithcon Corporation in order to stimulate interest in mathematics amongst youth. ERC holds semi-annual math contests for students in the third through eighth grades. The focus of these contests is to give inner city students the opportunity to showcase and recognize their math skills. ERC’s mission is to be a catalyst for progress in the education of young children in Houston area public schools.
At the event, Sanjeev Pany and Anthony Cervantes served as Team Test Proctors for fourth and eighth graders. Each team consisted of four to five students and who were given 30 minutes to solve a challenging math word problem. The students had to write their answer on a large sheet of paper and later present it to team judges. Nick Bangia and Kevin Moormann filled in as team judges for all the third grade teams participating in the contest. The event was a great success with Fins, students, and their parents looking forward to the next contest.
