Men, women and children laced up their sneakers on Sunday, September 18th for the 21st annual Komen Greater NYC Race for the Cure®.  Individuals, 1,071 teams, Co-Survivors and Survivors were on hand to run breast cancer out of town.

This year’s Race was better than ever with features including  the Survivor Race T-Shirt Fashion Show, Survivor Parade and a flash mob.  Celebrities on hand included Komen for the Cure founder and CEO Ambassador Nancy G. Brinker, actress and Komen ambassador Gabrielle Union, Miss USA Alyssa Campanella, and acting and co-survivor/survivor couple Jill Eikenberry and Michael Tucker.  The day’s events were emceed by CBS 2 anchor Maurice DuBois, weatherman John Elliott and the Women of CBS 2 (including Kristine Johnson, Katie McGee,and Dana Tyler).

Thanks to your dedication, we raised $5.4 million in 2010, allowing us to award $4.8 million in grants this year!

This year’s goal was $6 million.  Race fundraising ended on October 31st, and we'll have a final count of the amount raised next year.  You don't have to wait until Race season to support our work.  Consider the gift of life by making a donation to Komen Greater NYC as a holiday gift.

Funds help support local organizations providing breast health educational outreach, screening coordination and support and treatment services to underserved residents of the metropolitan area — whose numbers have been rising in these economically difficult times.  Money also goest to fund clinical research enrollment and national peer reviewed research.
