Pariveda’s Chicago Fins and friends participated in the Chicago Cares ‘Celebration of Service’, commemorating Dr. Martin Luther King Day by turning his message into community action. Groups from all over the city gathered at the United Center, home of the Chicago Blackhawks and Bulls, where they were put into project teams, and bused to various schools and public works locations across the city.
Pariveda had two teams participate in the event. One team painted a mural of the Chicago skyline at a school in West Englewood, one of the highest crime and impoverished neighborhoods on Chicago’s southwest side. While the other team headed to the northwest side of the city to clean a library in Humboldt Park.
Chicago fins were able to see the positive effects their community service provided when the Clemente librarian was overjoyed to see the improved conditions.
