Every entry level consultant at Pariveda is presented with
interesting and challenging opportunities to begin their career.
Each day is filled with new experiences, high-value responsibilities,
continuous learning, and relationship-oriented work. The daily
activity of a Pariveda consultant varies from person to person; however
here is one entry-level consultant's journal of a typical day:
6:20 am
My alarm goes off and after avoiding the snooze button, I wake up and head out to the Katy Trail for my daily 2-mile run.
8:00 am
I meet
with my manager for breakfast to discuss the status of the database
project that I've been working on for the past couple weeks. She
gives me some good ideas and advice on how I can improve it, and
informs me of any important deadlines that will have to be met during
the week.
8:45 am
I pull
into the client parking lot, and on my way into the building, I run
into John, an executive on the client team. We chat on our way
into the building, and before he enters the elevator, he mentions that
he is looking forward to our presentation at tomorrow's meeting.
8:50 am
I check my email and find a message from my project manager that there
have been several requirements change requests by our client to develop
new functionality for the web application project. He set up a
10:00 meeting to discuss these changes, so I jot down some ideas in
preparation for the meeting.
10:00 am
I
meet with our project team and we discuss how these changes will affect
the current project. I present my ideas on how we can incorporate
the change requests into the current design without affecting other
pieces of the project. My manager agrees with the approach and
indicates that he will make adjustments to the current work plan.
11:30 am
I send out a couple emails to the client requesting clarification on
some parts of the system requirements. As I complete my last
email, I notice that my mentor has sent me an email regarding lunch
tomorrow. He and I often try to meet for lunch to talk about my
progress and my near term goals. I reply back and let him know
that we should meet for tapas at the new Mexican restaurant down the
street.
12:00 pm
A
couple of us on the project team and two client members head to lunch
at a sandwich restaurant nearby. We sit out on the patio and
relax our minds for an hour before heading back to the office.
2:00 pm
I dial in to a conference call regarding the test results from our
first release of the software application to the client. A few
minor errors were reported, so I document several actions items that I
need to complete prior to Friday.
3:30 pm
I work with one of my teammates on slides for tomorrow's
presentation. She and I share ideas and incorporate them into the
slides. We do a brief dry run of the slides and make sure that we
did a thorough job on our analysis. I forward the slides to my
PM, and he sends out the slides to all the meeting attendees, including
the client executive team, and other team members.
5:30 pm
I look at the clock on the wall and am really surprised at how fast the
day flew by! I check my calendar to see what I have going on for
tomorrow, pack up my laptop, and head home.
8:00 pm
After
dinner, I meet some coworkers for our weekly study group
session. Some of us are pursuing Microsoft professional
certifications and we thought it would be a great idea to study
together. We meet at our new office in Dallas where consultants
may be found working on other projects during the day. At night,
however, the office serves as a great place to study.
10:00 pm
I finish reading an interesting article on wireless technology in this
week's Businessweek before going to bed. Looking back on the
day's happenings, I am excited about the new challenges that will be
present in the coming week.
